I had a great time. Thanks Kelly for organizing the event! The documentary was really good--Jiro is such an interesting character. I now really want to visit Japan, just to eat at his restaurant and see a master work at his craft. 75 years! I hope I'm still kicking it at 85!

Interesting movie and seeing the behind the scenes preparation, Japanese patriarchal relationships, and the subtle nuances in the high class Sushi business. DISCLAIMER - You will crave sushi afterwards.

the documentary was mama, however the story is very inspiring. Jiro san's professionalism and attitude in the craft of making sushi has my hat off to him. Learned some very important tips in making sushi

It was a nice but somewhat chilly morning for the clean-up. I was glad to help out the National Park Service on behalf of Japan-America Society and this Meetup group to prepare the Tidal Basin for the upcoming Cherry Blossoms Festival. People were friendly and cooperative, including the Park Service staff (who could've benefited from better tools).

Turn out wasn't as good as past happy hours I've been to. The drink specials only lasted until 8pm which was a bit of a bummer since I didn't show up at the start time of 6. The Japan Society folks were friendly though.

Would've preferred the original venue as I know there would've been easier access to seating and perhaps a bit less loud for easier conversation. The lion dance troupe did offer some cultural flavor to the event.
