Old Rag Mountain Hike

This location is shown only to members

Update #1 Few more things you need to be aware of
-This is not for beginners. The hike is Strenuous and the organizer assumes absolutely no responsibility of any injury during the hiking event. Try some local hiking trail like billy goat trail, run half hour everyday. If you change your mind, please update your RSVP.
-bring some change of cloth, the shirt will be soak with sweat, it will be nice to have some dry clothing to change into after the hike.
- along the same line as cloth, wear sandals and switch to hiking shoes once there, and then switch back when done - more for comfort than anything else.
- there are only porta johns at the two parking lots, bring some water or hand sanitizer
- bring at least 1.5 liters of drink on the hike, tip: have some in the car when get back. Keep some frozen overnight, bring one frozen bottle on the hike to mix with non-frozen ones, so you have constant supply of cold drink.
- pack light, especially don't bring any heavy food, canned food for example
- no trash can in the park, so everyone need to carry their trash out

Come out and explore with me the old rag mountain at the beautiful Shenandoah national park. Aren't you tired of staying home or doing boring workout at the gym? Let's be a little outdoorsy and adventurous this summer. Let's go hiking and explore the great mountain, meet new friends and have a fun time together.

Old Rag Mountain (3291ft) is the most spectacular mountain in the northern Virginia Blue Ridge. Unlike most of the mountains in the Blue Ridge, it stands alone as an outlying mountain rather than as part of a continuous chain. Old Rag is a popular hike in all seasons; on weekends it can be crowded. Old Rag's attractions include a rugged scramble over and through boulders on the Ridge Trail and spectacular views in all direction.

Distance: 7 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2200 ft
Hike Time: 5hours + 1hour lunch time
Difficulty: Strenuous
Trail Condition: OK, but a few difficult spots
HikeType: Loop

The Old Rag Mountain Hike was tougher than I remember it from the last time I was there 20 years ago, but Sara did a nice job organizing, the group was fun and I had a great time. I especially enjoyed the conversations and the breaks!
