The festival is tomorrow!! Remember to look for the yellow happy face balloon to locate me, or look at the schedule mentioned earlier. You can also contact me at [masked] if you need help locating the group.
Update 2
Tips to make the festival a little more enjoyable:
1. Bring a light blanket or something to sit on for a picnic style lunch and to watch the performances.
2. Stay cool and hydrated, bring water and sun protection.
3. Credit cards will be accepted by some craft vendors but food-wise, bring cash.
Also for the ease of carpool arrangements. If you're offering a ride or looking for a ride, please complete the carpool list.
Update 1
Alright folks, the festival is coming up this Sunday and the event's schedule is finally up!! Here's a listing of what I plan to attend:
12:00 PM
Cambodian Traditional Music: The Mohori Phirum Ensemble
1:00 PM
Lunch
1:30 PM
Cambodian Classical Dances
2:30 PM
Traditional Wedding Ceremony
3:00 PM
Chhay-Yam Procession
3:15 PM
Live Band & Social Dancing
Visit the festival's website for the full schedule. You're welcome to join me for the full day or parts of the day. Come and go as you please, the festival officially ends at 6 pm. I will have my "yellow happy face" balloon with me the entire time. I will send out my contact info later for those needing to locate us.
The closest metro to the park is Van Dorn. Use WMATA and Alexandria's DASH for public transporation planning (DASH Transit #8 should get you there). Parking is limited, carpooling and public transportation is highly suggested. Offering a ride or needing a ride? Please post in the comments and arrange it amongst yourselves.

Come out and enjoy a fun learning experience of the Cambodian culture through artistic performances, cultural and craft exhibitions and of course festive foods! Cultural exhibitions explore into the different regions of Cambodia while stage performances include a variety of traditional folk music and dances. For more info, check out the festival flyer.
I'm involved w/this festival organiz. and we are looking for volunteers, to help paint kids faces. You don't have to be a recognized starving artist, just be a wanta-be artist, creative & cool with the kids. Sign up for 1 - 1 1/2 hr time slots. Contact me if you're interested: write2sarann@yahoo.com
Even if you can't volunteer, come and enjoy the festival anyways! --and stop by and say hello to the artists : )
Steve, there is no official shuttle for the festival. Limited parking is available in the park's parking lots, additional side parking will be allowed. Another option is to park at Van Dorn Metro and take the DASH bus to the park. For everyone, if possible, please try to carpool and help out another member who needs a ride!
Ck, I understand your worries about everyone not being able to find each other but keep in mind that this is a community festival -meaning small- and there won't be that many locales for people to be hiding in :) Plus, it would be a little weird if all 71+ of us moved as a group through the festival, that's why 2N posted the schedule of events she plans to attend and we're free to meet up with her throughout the day. If you get lost at the festival, just look for the giant happy face balloon.
Anybody up for carpooling from the Fairfax/Falls Church/nearby area for around a 1:00-arrival time (i could drive)?
I live in Annandale, right next to Inova Hospital. Lewis, if you still want to carpool, hit me up at 317-603-2572. Or anyone willing to carpool, just call.
we should watch the weather its gonna be thunderstorms in afternoon :/
I was looking at the time and the sunlight... Looks kinda gloomy outside. Who's going?
Just a warning for those who have not attended before everything is fairly open so if it really looks like rain bring a umbrella or something cos there will be no place to hide...I will be there(have to carry a flag for CBSCG)- So if anyone sees a redheaded white girl all dressed in Khmer clothes (green) that would be me.
I'm def goin - waited three years to have Cambodian food again! Chunsa - is your name a korean reference ("angel something")?? just wondering ;)
Lewis- Yeah it's kindof long story/joke between friends(had the nickname since I was 16 I am 29 now) Chunsa-Angel Gongju-Princess=
Oh dear. It had to be on my birthday of all days. Well, I'll have to think about it for now.
